3DTV trials in Singapore

A year-long trial of 3D television broadcasts has started in Singapore under the management of the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA).

This is a nationwide trial that will deliver 3D content to all homes through cable, IPTV and terrestrial TV services.

This will be done with the help of broadcast partners MediaCorp, StarHub and SingTel, along with technical partners that include Panasonic, Ross Video, Evertz, XpanD and Multimedia Maestro.

The trial is designed to make sure that broadcasters and viewers are aware of the technology, so that they can get ready for a 3D world.

A trial such as this one will also allowing businesses to see the business opportunities available within the 3D TV industry and give them opportunities to get involved too, at all levels before it really takes off.

3D TV trial in Singapore

Singapore is planning to launch a nationwide 3D TV trial this year.

This will involve all the major broadcasters and phone companies, as the service is expected to cover at least the major platforms.

The announcement was made by the Media Development Authority (MDA), at the MIP TV television trade market event that has been held in Cannes, France.

It is believed that the 3D TV trial will start in August, which will be just in time for the start of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

This trial is different to what is happening in the UK, as only subscribers to the Sky 3D Channel can experience 3D TV, whereas in Singapore the rollout of 3D TV will mean that all viewers, including those using free to view digital TV services, can experience 3D TV.
