MaxLinear and 3view announce a joint collaboration on the 3view HD Digital TV Recorder, a hybrid IPTV and DVB-T2 set top box. The 3view HD Digital TV Recorder includes a 500GB hard drive, dual MxL5007T DVB-T2 broadcast tuners and broadband connectivity. The receiver enables consumers to view and record a wide variety of free content in the UK, including 50+ TV channels, all free-to-air HD channels, YouTube videos, and other IPTV content. The integrated Sky Player and BBC iPlayer allow users to “catch up” on previously broadcasted TV shows on these two networks. In addition, the receiver provides a simple user interface to view personal photos and home videos, stream digital music, and interact with friends & family through Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

STMicroelectronics announced its latest decoder chip for low-cost, standard-definition equipment targeting fast-growing markets such as China and Eastern Europe, as well as India, where In-Stat expects pay-TV subscriber numbers to reach 90 million by 2012.

ST’s new STi5206 replaces the STi5205, implementing extra functions on the chip to further simplify STB design and production. The STi5206’s flexible architecture provides a cost-effective platform for multiple products including low-cost zappers, interactive STBs and DVR-enabled STBs. The architecture also supports dual-tuner designs.

The ENC-300 is a hardware encoder blade built for 24/7 streaming and real time encoding. The H264 HD encoder series supports input of DVI signals up to 1920×1200, HDMI or HD-SDI. Additionally the ENC-300 supports RGB, analogue Components and Composite, for those applications where many different signals are found and the encoder inputs need to be switched.

The ENC-300 uses only 9W power to encode video and audio signals. Making it ideal not only for fixed installations but also for mobile 4G sports, broadcast contribution and news gathering, since the HD encoder can be powered by a battery.
