SureWest Breaks Ground with Interactive Video Content

surewest_logo.gif
SureWest launched
its i2TV interactive video content network created by TellyTopia available only on
the SureWest digital TV network in Sacramento. Utilizing i2TV’s online portal, TellyTopia
provides the technology whereby anyone, including non-SureWest customers, can upload
high-resolution video content through the i2TV Web site at www.i2tv.tv/surewest and
watch it on SureWest’s channel 702. Similar to Web-based video content sites, videos
are uploaded for viewing by a mass audience, but in this case content can be created
online and viewed on TV. SureWest is the world’s first cable provider to launch this
unique interactive channel offered by TellyTopia to its subscribers.

To enhance the customer experience, SureWest will soon announce a new local sports
program available on i2TV. The show will be the only program to provide highlights
showcasing youth and high school sports around the Sacramento region.

Videos are made available on i2TV within 24 hours of uploading the file online. Video
file size can be up to 100 megabytes in size — more than double the maximum allowed
size of most popular online sites, providing excellent picture quality and a more
pleasing viewing experience. Customers that do not submit files that meet the standards
of i2TV, such as video resolution and content appropriateness, will be provided details
as to why the submission was not approved so they can revise and re-submit.

Content on i2TV is categorized into 30-minute segments with local content available
for five days on the channel at rotating times. In addition to channel 702, SureWest
will be adding i2TV’s local content along with an upload tool to its customer home
page My SureWest at surewest.net. The content will also be added to SureWest’s On
Demand video library. The company plans to launch i2TV in its Kansas City market as
well.

Zodiac and ADB have
integrated the PowerUp TV with ADB’s products. The combined solution lets operators
more rapidly deploy tru2way and EBIF applications, offering advanced Interactive Television
2.0 services, such as advanced guides, targeted advertising, and TV widgets.

PowerUp is Zodiac’s tru2way framework, a common platform of open APIs and libraries
that allow for a broad range of applications to be developed and work together across
multiple devices.

With ADB’s tru2way set-top boxes and software now integrating PowerUp, operators can
enrich their subscribers’ experience with a variety of new, interactive services,
including local restaurant searching, click-to-call, games, photo-sharing, weather,
traffic, sports scores, local news, and more.

Developers will also benefit from ADB and Zodiac’s integrated solution: they will
be able to build their tru2way applications to the PowerUp framework specifications,
without worrying about interoperability between any tru2way component already deployed
by an operator.

At the Cable Show next month, both Advanced Digital Broadcast and Zodiac will demonstrate
Zodiac’s PowerUp for tru2way technology integrated with Osmosys software on the ADB-6880
CDMX Tru2way Personal Video Recorder.

In booth #525, ADB will be showcasing a complete line of tru2way set-top and set-back
boxes. Demonstrations with Zodiac’s PowerUp will include multi-room tru2way capabilities,
such as interactive games and advanced guides.

Avinity introduces
Application Services for RenderCast. The RenderCast platform enables rich interactive
services and on-demand Internet content over any network to any two-way Set- Top Box.

While traditional interactive TV applications have to be integrated into each individual
operator network and platform, this new approach deploys application on Internet based
servers, accessible by all operators. Application Services for RenderCast automatically
handles application deployment, versioning, monitoring, statistics, as well as video
transcoding, load balancing and redundancy, and is already being used by several leading
content providers.

Avinity is demonstrating its platform at IBC 2008 at its booth 5.B05 in hall 5.
