Toy Story 3 hits top of the UK video game chart

Despite the fact that it debuted at number five upon its release last week, the success of the film has meant the Toy Story 3 game has leapt to the top of the charts (as compiled by Chart Track).

Disney’s title almost doubled in sales this week, up 78%, and it dislodged Crackdown 2 from the number one spot. In fact, Crackdown 2 fell a long way, with the Xbox exclusive dropping back down to number ten after hogging the limelight for two weeks consecutively.

Red Dead Redemption rose back up the charts to the number two position, and Ubisoft’s Dance on Broadway dropped one place back to number three.

Lego Harry Potter was to be found waving its wand at number four, followed by Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, waving its golf clubs. The only new entry was Dragon Quest IX on the Nintendo DS, which came in at number nine, appropriately enough.

Chart Track notes that Modern Warfare 2 is now outside the top ten, although only just at number eleven. However, it is apparently fast closing in on the title of all-time best selling game in the UK, which is currently Dr Kawashima on the DS.

GAME to put DLC warning stickers on second-hand games

GAME has announced a new policy regarding the sales of second-hand video games.

Some customers may not realise that with certain games, downloadable content (DLC) is available via serial codes that come in the box.

However, when the original purchaser has redeemed the codes and downloaded the extras, the person buying the pre-owned version can’t download the same goodies.

Well, they can, but with no code to get them for free, the second owner has to pay up.

Hence GAME are now putting warning stickers on games which carry such DLC.

For example, EA’s blockbuster RPG Dragon Age: Origins carries vouchers and codes for a free set of blood dragon armour, and extra content in the form of the Stone Prisoner, an episode of quests and a new character.

GAME has made the move after legal action was brought against a retailer in the US, when a consumer was not best pleased to discover he had no DLC with his second-hand copy of Dragon Age: Origins.
