It seems the Queen is getting down with the technological youngsters, as she’s opened up a Flickr account.
Or “The British Monarchy” has, at any rate, to go alongside the Twitter account it started which now has some 51,000 followers. This definitely smacks of a serious effort to show that the Royal Family aren’t a bunch of old fuddy duddies who think an iPad is something the hospital gives you to protect your scratched cornea.
Anyway, the Flickr site actually has a large range (26 sets to be precise) of quite interesting photo collections up there, some of which are historical affairs.
The Royal Events and Ceremonies section, for example, shows the state opening of Parliament, trooping the colour and so on from throughout past decades, including some black and white snaps such as the Queen delivering her 1960 Christmas Broadcast from Buckingham Palace.
The Royal Collection even shows some really old photographs of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, which date back to the 1850s. It’s well worth a browse.
