Apple’s profits boom with iPhone 4 and iPad

After all the sales boasting we’ve been hearing about between the iPad and recently released iPhone 4, it’s no surprise that Apple has just posted some impressive fiscal figures.

The Cupertino based outfit racked up a profit of $3.25 billion in its third quarter, not far off double what it achieved in the same period last year ($1.8 billion).

Total sales hit a new quarterly record of $15.7 billion, which was 50% more than the same period last year.

This isn’t surprising given that iPad sales have crested the 3 million mark, and the iPhone 4, despite its high profile antenna problems, has led Apple’s iconic smartphone to 8 million plus units shifted.

The iPhone 4 is still seriously struggling with stock issues due to demand, and all this must add up to one happy Steve Jobs.

Mac sales are performing strongly, too, shifting 3.5 million units.

LG gambles on 3D laptops

Currently the Korea-based laptop manufacturer, LG, is preparing to launch the LG R590 3D and within a few weeks the laptop will be released around the world.

This is a huge gamble by LG as there is not an established market as of yet, but some firm has to be at the cutting edge and the only way to get the consumer to take up new ideals is to get them on the market.

The laptop comes with a pair of glasses, unlike the plans of some other 3D equipment makers.

Most important of all will be how these machines are taken up.

Will the addition of the Blu-ray drive or the TriDef software that converts 2D into 3D make any difference? Only time will tell.

RIM unhappy with Apple Conference reference

During the Steve Jobs Show on Friday night, so many points were covered that the analysing has only just begun to pump out its conclusions.

However, quick off the mark is RIM, the maker of the Blackberry device, which has taken exception to the references made by Steve Jobs with regards to the signal reception received by the Blackberry Bold 9700, which is said to suffer from similar issues to the iPhone 4.

Apple attempted to take the pressure off the iPhone 4 by highlighting the issues that occur in other smartphones, such as the Blackberry Bold, Samsung Omnia and the HTC Droid Eris.

However, RIM has come out fighting, claiming that Apple is trying to justify the problem rather than admit that there is one.

Rumours over iPhone 4 recall

The problems for Apple continue to build over the issues surrounding the iPhone 4.

To make things worse for Apple, Consumer Reports, a sort of US version of Which? has declined to recommend the new Apple iPhone following an in depth review of the product and highlighting reception problems as the main issue.

To make matters worse, the bookmaker Paddy Power is now offering odds of 4/6 that Apple will have to recall the iPhone 4 to fix the reception issue once and for all.

Apple has not covered itself in glory with the new iPhone, with claims that users were holding the device wrongly and then that the signal was fine, it was just the software that needed an update.

3D not suitable for Wii audience

Nintendo may be launching a new 3D version of the DS hand held games device but when it comes to the Wii, 3D is not an option according to the Nintendo games designer, Shigeru Miyamoto.

There are several reasons why the Wi will not be going 3D.

The lack of 3D Ready televisions in the home is the main reason.

Consumers are just getting into HD televisions so they are not likely to be dumping those in favour of a 3D version.

The difference between the Wii and the DS is that the DS is a self contained unit with its own display built in and does not requires the user to wear 3D glasses.
