The BBC, or to be more precise the News produced by the BBC, is more important for the image of the UK than the Armed Forces or the Royal Family, according to the director general, Mark Thompson.
This claim comes as the DG attempts to justify the amount of money that the BBC is getting and more precisely, the cost of the BBC World Service.
The new government will be looking at cutbacks and at some point the BBC will be going under the microscope, so maybe this is a move to get the BBC’s point across before it can be criticised.
It is true that the BBC is a global brand, but it is still funded through public money via the TV Licence.
This is where the issue lies and the TV Licence will be fought over during the next few months.

BBC is great for Britain
