BNS Signs Exclusive Contract to Deploy IPTV Service in Taiwan

BNS has
signed a five-year exclusive contract with Max Media to build and deploy community-based
IPTV services. The contract will see BNS supply complete IPTV turnkey solutions including
network, equipment, software, content, and system integration, maintenance and support
services in residential complexes including high-end estates, commercial buildings,
service apartments and hotels in Taiwan.

The service, which will be operated by Max Media, consists of 45 TV channels, including
exclusive Chinese channels not seen on cable TV, true HDTV channels and VOD content,
TV shopping and TV advertising services to homes, offices and hotel rooms. It will
be the country’s first true HD community IPTV service to residential complexes, commercial
buildings and hotels.

UTStarcom announces
the launch of its IPTV Technology Center and Center of Excellence in India. The IPTV
Technology Center will take a lead role in the formation of India’s IPTV regulation,
and the Center of Excellence will provide post-sales support for all of UTStarcom’s
customers in the country. Both Centers are based in UTStarcom’s Gurgaon office.

The IPTV Technology Center will focus on localization and customization of UTStarcom’s
IPTV products in India. UTStarcom’s primary goal is to share global perspectives on
IPTV implementation standards and identify synergies with potential IPTV partners
for future deployment collaborations. The Center will also enable UTStarcom to analyze
and conduct extensive background research on current market trends, opportunities
and individual operator needs before the company enters into new customer agreements.

The Center of Excellence is an IPTV lab that will emulate the customer network and
simulate customer-reported problems in various conditions. This will allow the company
to modify its technology before it is deployed to create an optimal end-user experience.

UTStarcom’s investment in these IPTV centers reinforces its commitment to helping
customers achieve their operational and network efficiency goals. UTStarcom currently
has IPTV contracts with leading service providers in India including Bharti Airtel
in Delhi NCR, and with Aksh Optifibre for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in 20 cities
across India and with Aksh Optifibre for Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd in Delhi and
Mumbai. UTStarcom has also announced IPTV deployments with United Telecoms Limited
in India and with SLT in Sri Lanka.

KT Signs On BBC World News


BBC
Worldwide Channels
announces a new agreement to distribute BBC World News on Qook
TV, KT Corp’s brand for
its residential services, such as landline telephony, internet and IPTV, in South
Korea. The feed will go live tomorrow, 17 September 09.

With the addition of World News, Qook TV’s viewers will be able to the latest world
news including current affairs programmes specifically targeted at the Asian market
including Asia Business Report. The channel will be available on channel 353 on Qook
TV, reaching an additional 380,000 subscribers in South Korea.

BBC World News is one of six BBC-branded thematic channels distributed in Asia by
Worldwide Channels.

UTStarcom Named Leader in China, India IPTV Markets

UTStarcom named
the leading IPTV provider in Asia in Multimedia Research Group’s latest Global IPTV
Market Leaders Report. The in-depth analysis tracks the top 100 IPTV vendors in 24
regional sub-segments. UTStarcom’s strategic IPTV deployments and strong subscriber
gains drove the company’s rise to the top in the Access, VOD, Set-top-Boxes, Middleware
and Content Protection categories.

UTStarcom pioneered IPTV in China when it introduced its RollingStream end-to-end
IPTV system in 2005. As of March 2009, UTStarcom’s RollingStream supported more than
1.32 million live IPTV subscribers globally. In 2008, UTStarcom partnered with Guangxi
Telecom Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Telecom, to deploy the first IPTV-based
digital signage solution in 14 Guangxi cities. UTStarcom was also among the first
to deliver the Olympic Games via IPTV to China viewers during summer 2008. This April,
the company was selected as the only technology supplier for the first mobile television
system across Hainan province, driven by China Telecom’s Hainan branch.

UTStarcom is also a recognized IPTV leader throughout the Indian subcontinent. The
company partnered with Aksh Optifibre Ltd. in 2007 to deliver the first commercial
IPTV service in Delhi through Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. With UTStarcom’s continued
partnership, Aksh set an agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited to offer its
iControl IPTV service in 20 cities across India and additionally in Mumbai with MTNL.
UTStarcom also has a long-standing relationship with Bharti Airtel in Delhi NCR. Additionally,
UTStarcom’s RollingStream platform is being used by Sri Lanka Telecom to deliver IPTV
services in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

AORA Selects TANDBERG Television Encoding

AORA has
selected TANDBERG Television encoders
and multiplexing for over 50 channels of standard-definition content, which are broadcast
in MPEG-4 AVC over satellite. AORA will be using TANDBERG Television’s award-winning
PREKOR dynamic pre-correction system for Satellite Modulation. AORA was launched in
August 2008 initially with a 10 channel introductory service and exclusive Indonesian
rights to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Barclays Premier League football. AORA is
the first Pay TV operator in Indonesia to utilize MPEG-4 AVC.
